Christopher Long hit by another injury setback

12 September 2022

Christopher Long has been sidelined for another five-to-six weeks after suffering a reoccurrence of the ankle injury which has restricted him to just 20 minutes of action this season.

The striker, who missed pre-season after picking up the problem at the start of July, had got himself back in the first-team picture and came on as a late sub against Stevenage earlier this month.

But boss Alex Morris has reported the 27-year-old has suffered a setback.

He said: "He’s had another setback with the same ankle, he’s got multiple tears and will be out for the foreseeable future, perhaps five or six weeks.

"To be honest, we haven’t ‘lost’ Chris – because we’ve never had him! But it's hugely frustrating for the players, club, teammates, management, and supporters because we don’t get to see one of our best players."

Morris had better news on Kelvin Mellor (ankle), who is available for selection after missing the Stevenage game, while Rio Adebisi (foot) is expected to be on the bench at Hartlepool tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45).

Lachlan Brook (ankle) is scheduled to return to training later this week, but Charlie Colckett (hamstring) is still some way off a return.

Morris added: "We have to get Chris's rehab right this time, because there will still be a large proportion of the season left when he returns, and he can contribute by creating and scoring goals.

"Nobody wants to be out on the pitch more than him, he’s desperate to be out there and we want that too. But that’s football and you have to contend with injuries."
