Boss wants positive reaction from players in Grimsby test

9 September 2022

Alex Morris has urged his players to bounce back quickly when they visit Grimsby Town on Saturday (3pm).

Crewe Alexandra were beaten 2-1 by Stevenage last time out, and the manager wants to see an immediate response.

Though he acknowledges it will be difficult against an in-form Mariners side, he believes it is vital to get back on track quickly.

Morris said: “Good teams don’t lose two league games on the spin and that’s something we’ll be looking to ensure doesn’t happen to us on Saturday.

“We’ve had a good look at them and it will be a really tough fixture. They’ve not lost in the league since the opening day, and Paul Hurst has done remarkably well there.

“They play some good football and have good players in the middle of the pitch. They have pace at the top end of the pitch, and experience at the back, and that blend will ensure they have a good season.”

Crewe went down 4-0 at Grimsby in a Carabao Cup tie earlier this season. But Morris expects a much different game, as he intends to field a full-strength team this time.

He added: “They did a number on us in the Carabao Cup, although the team we’ll have out at the weekend will be vastly different.

“We’ll need to be right at it from the first minute, and make sure we impose our style of play on the game. If we do that, I’m very confident we will get a result.”
