Boss: ‘Everyone having a say on second-half slump solutions’

6 September 2022

Crewe Alexandra players have been giving valuable opinions on how they can improve second-half performances.

That’s according to Alex Morris, who revealed his squad have been adding their own insights during video analysis sessions.

The manager has been disappointed with second-half performances this term.

Crewe have scored nine goals and conceded just four goals in first halves of their nine games in all competitions. But in second-halves, they have shipped 12 goals and only scored one.

Morris says everyone at the club is coming together to work out why that is happening.

“We’ve had a review, and we got an insight from the players,” he said.

“They are the ones who live the game and we have some intelligent footballers. We’ve had some insightful ideas as to why our second-half performances aren’t as strong as the first halves.

“Talking about it, and working out solutions on the training ground, is what we’ll be doing this week – whether it be to do with tactics, personnel, or mentality.

“There is lots of willingness from their players to add their thoughts. They all care, and you get lots of varied opinions which is good.

“The players are fully invested in the aims we have here, that’s something we wanted to get right from the start when we came into the job – a full integration of everybody contributing, and that’s what we’ve got.”

Crewe travel to face Grimsby Town on Saturday (3pm) looking to reap revenge for a 4-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup there earlier this season.

Morris said: “There are many things to consider and it’s all about coming up with the right formula moving into the Grimsby game.

“You’ll always get defeats in football, but you have to quickly move on. Good teams don’t lose two league games on the spin and that’s something we’ll be looking to ensure doesn’t happen to us on Saturday.”
