Arthur Okonkwo: 'I've enjoyed every minute so far'

1 September 2022

Shot-stopper Arthur Okonkwo has opened up on his move to the Alex, expressing his enjoyment with the loan spell so far after an impressive start under manager Alex Morris.

Okonkwo is pleased with his progress so far after picking up three clean sheets already this season, including a goalless draw with Bradford City last Saturday.

The Arsenal loanee has thanked supporters and the coaching staff for helping him to adapt to the new surroundings after quickly establishing himself between the sticks.

Okonkwo said: “I’d say the first few games were hard for me, getting used to the league and stuff but the team has been great. They’ve been really supportive, they’ve helped me out and it’s been great being here just playing week in week out. It’s a new adaptation but I feel like I’ve settled in well.

“When you always go to new environments it’s always difficult, meeting new players, learning who you’re playing with and stuff. But as soon as the fifth game, sixth game comes around it’s just like 'yeah, okay I’m settling in now'.

Okonkwo joined the Reds the day before the opening game of the season and was immediately thrown into the starting XI, but he feels that has helped him to settle in quicker.

He added: “It’s been difficult, I’ve obviously moved from London now, it’s a first loan, it’s a new experience for me. I was excited and proud to be coming here, moving out and living on my own - I’ve really enjoyed it.
