Crewe Alexandra were defeated 5-1 against a ruthless Brentford B side on Saturday afternoon.
A first-half strike from Oliver Finney gave the Alex the lead, however a brace from Alex Gilbert and Ryan Trivett as well as a finish from Max Dickov gave the visitors a comprehensive victory.
In an even first-half contest the Alex held their own against an exciting Brentford side, although the quality of the Bees prevailed in the second half, blowing away the hosts in the space of 10 second half minutes.
Michael Jackson's side was a mix of experience and youth, with experienced goalkeeper Dave Richards and Oliver Finney.
After a dull opening 15 minutes, the visitors had the first opportunity of the game through Ryan Trevitt, though his effort from 12-yards out was well saved by Richards.
Isaac Holland also went close for the visitors mid-way through the first half but could not direct his header from a Tony Yogane cross on target.
On 24 minutes Owen Lunt received treatment was stretchered off after what appears to be a leg injury from a challenge with a Brentford midfielder.
Most of the first-half action came towards the end, as Alex Gilbert nearly capitalised on a Zac Williams error, but couldn't direct his effort on tyarget.
Immediately down the other end Charlie Finney hit the bar after a well-constructed counterattack, and a minute later the Alex went a goal up courtesy of his brother, Oliver, who struck the ball sweetly from just outside the area right into the bottom corner, giving 'keeper Ben Winterbottom.
Following Lunt's injury, seven minutes of additional time was played, and in the third minute of those seven the Bees equalised through Trevitt.
Tristan Crama played an excellent ball over the top to find Gilbert, he checked inside before binding Trevitt who guided the ball into the bottom corner, giving the Crewe defence no chance.
The hosts struggled to have an input throughout the second half, failing to register an attempt on goal.
Gilbert netted his first of the encounter with 67 minutes on the clock with a neat finish after Trevitt threaded an excellent through ball to find the Republic of Ireland U21 international.
Two minutes later the Bees extended their lead through Dickov, who netted from close range to following a scramble in the Alex's box.
It was soon four for the young side from London as Gilbert netted his second following good work from Yarmoliuk, and a minute later the visitors got their fifth through Trivett's neat finish to complete the rout at the Mornflake stadium
