The Papa John’s Trophy clash with Leeds Under-21s will provide some Crewe Alexandra fringe players with the chance to stake a claim for a regular starting place.
That’s according to Kenny Lunt, who says there will be opportunities handed to squad members who have had game-time restricted of later.
The club’s Player Development Manager said it is also another chance to bed in the style the boss is looking for his team to adopt.
Lunt said: “There will be opportunities for players who haven’t played as many minutes as they might have liked, it’s a perfect opportunity for them to get into the team.
“The cup games also give you time to get (injured) players back and work on the style we want the team to play in.”
Leeds are expected to bring an expensively-assembled side packed with ability and star potential, as they aim to progress from Group B with a win.
Lunt says there is plenty of character and spirit within the group, and everybody will be striving to get back to winning ways.
He added: “The dressing room is a good atmosphere with good characters, there are no bad eggs and they will stick together and they will run through walls for Alex (Morris).”
The game kicks off at 7pm (Tuesday).
