Dicker: 'A really good performance overall'

30 November 2022

Under-18 Manager, Ryan Dicker says his side will continue to learn from FA Youth Cup experiences after they managed to overcome Grimsby Town in the Second Round.

Crewe Alexandra's academy are set to face Cardiff City at Mornflake Stadium with a date due to be confirmed in the coming weeks for Round Three.

The Under-18s were forced through 120 minutes in their first test against Mansfield Town after coming from behind twice in the fixture and now Dicker is hoping his group can extend the run past round three.

Talking after the victory on Monday night, he said: "I thought it was a really good performance overall. Those kind of nights are great for the lads and the experiences they get from them will only help their development.

"The opening 10 minutes was a little frantic, but we looked in complete control throughout. Our two centre backs were terrific on the ball, playing through the lines which allowed us to expose the spaces.

"We continued to get into some excellent positions around their box but just lacked that extra bit of quality or ruthlessness to turn the chances into goals.

"That breakthrough finally came though when Owen (Lunt) found the bottom corner with an excellent finish. I want to see more of that from him moving forward."
