Boss keen to make full week of training pay off

16 November 2022

Lee Bell says he has a clear picture of how he wants Crewe Alexandra to play.

The interim manager says the players are working all week on his plans to bring more attacking threat to their game.

Bell explained: “With no midweek game, it’s a good opportunity to get some work into the players regarding team structure and the things we want to improve on.

“The boys will be in all week and working towards Saturday to try to get an improvement in our performance. We have to use the time right; the players are on board with it.

“The defensive foundations are brilliant and that’s been the major plus of this season, seven or eight clean sheets is some going in the light of what happened last season.

“But we want to create more chances and be more exciting now. I want to encourage the players to be on the front foot and attack.

Bell, who has overseen successes in the Papa John’s Trophy, FA Cup, and League Two, since taking the reins, praised the effort and application of his players.

He added: “If you’re not executing the gameplan as it was put to you, it’s important you still come off the pitch with a win, and we’ve been doing that.

“We can’t ask for any more effort from them. We have all that information about the mileage and the sprints these boys are doing, and I can assure you that our stats are right up there in the league. We have the data.”
