Bell: ‘Key asset Okonkwo is learning all the time’

15 November 2022

Arthur Okonkwo’s willingness to learn has been key to him becoming a star performer for Crewe Alexandra this season.

That’s according to interim manager Lee Bell, who says the on-loan Arsenal man has got better and better since arriving in the summer.

Working with keeper coach Fred Barber and the rest of the club’s football staff, the 6ft 6ins custodian has kept seven clean sheets in League Two.

Bell said: “Arthur is a real learner. That’s the biggest compliment I can give him, he’s willing to learn.

“He’s been willing to take himself out of his comfort zone by taking possibly the toughest loan he could have done, away from his family and friends.

“He’s been a real asset and long may that continue. Because he’s a learner, it means he will only get better.”

Highly-rated Okonkwo, 21, is on loan at Mornflake Stadium until the end of the season.

He hasn’t conceded a goal in more than three-and-a-half hours of football.
