Bell delighted with ‘unbelievable effort’ from his players

20 November 2022

Lee Bell heaped praise on his players after Crewe Alexandra’s super 1-0 win at Swindon Town.

Dan Agyei netted the only goal of the game to make it three straight victories for The Railwaymen, and their second on the road this term.

The interim manager was delighted with the effort and commitment of his players at The County Ground, and pleased with the way they stuck to the gameplan.

Bell said: “It was an unbelievable effort from the lads, every one of them. We knew it would have to be.

“We told them in the week they’d have to spend long periods without the football, that it was more of a mental test than a physical one, and I thought the boys were excellent.

“The players are at their peak and the stats back it up. I’ll have nobody doubting the players’ work ethic, they were top drawer. If they want to stay in the team, they have to churn out more performances like that.

“They are all buying into what we are doing and it was pleasing to see the things we have worked on in the week, when we had the ball, I could see it on the pitch.

“I’m pleased for the fans, they looked like they enjoyed it, and it’s a really good three points against a good team.”

While Town hit the woodwork through Luke Jephcott, Crewe had chances to get more goals and make the game safe earlier.

They couldn’t find a second goal, but Bell is convinced that killer touch will come.

He added: “We could have taken the game away from them but we didn’t so they were always in the game.

“I’ve told the players if we keep improving in the way we want to, that clinical edge will come.”
