'Players Will Know Their Roles And Will Have To Fulfil Them'

3 May 2022

Alex Morris says that his Crewe Alexandra players will know their ‘exact roles and responsibilities’ heading into the new season and that if they do not produce consistent form then their places will be in jeopardy.

The Alex boss is determined to create real competition for places in his new look team and he will use those challenges for the shirts to improve performances and push them to a greater level.

Speaking after the final weekend of the season, Morris told the club’s official website: “We have been pleased with many aspects of our play in the last four games. The players have been able to quickly take things on board.

“In the short space of time we have had to work, our defensive shape has looked better and we have been more of an attacking threat. We have created chances and opportunities but possibly not been as clinical as we should be.

“That was certainly the case on Saturday. We created numerous chances. Oli (Finney) missed a great chance to make it 2-0 but there were other examples too when we were just lacking that composure in front of goal or that final ball.

“We had enough chances to have won the game and if they don’t take those chances and become consistent with it then their place is in jeopardy. That is how it has to be. That will stand for all of them.

He added: “The players will know their exact roles and responsibilities and if they do not fulfil them then they won’t play. We need to find that consistency in their performances.”
