'We Would Be Open To One Or Two Others Leaving'

26 May 2022

Lee Bell has revealed to the club’s official website that manager Alex Morris has not ruled out letting other players leave the club if they do not fit into his plans.

Morris has already retracted a contract offer made to full-back Travis Johnson after it remained unsigned at the end of the season and the new Crewe Alexandra manager   is open to other possible departures to bolster his own budget.

Assistant manager Bell has admitted that private talks have occurred with players, who may not necessary be considered as first team regulars this season. One of those players discussed has certainly been midfielder Madger Gomes. The Alicante born Gomes was used sparingly last season but has a wealth of experience having been at the likes of Villarreal, Leeds, Liverpool and Doncaster Rovers.

The 25-year-old has a year remaining on his contract but would be allowed to leave if he can get fixed up at another club this summer. Gomes made 11 appearances for Crewe last season as he struggled to cement a regular place in the side.

Bell told us: “We have had conservations with some others and that will remain private. I would say that we are no further forward with that at the moment but we would consider letting two or three if they want more first team football.

“I am sure that Alex will say something on that if and when anything happens or develops there.
