Kelvin Mellor says it means an awful lot to return to his hometown club.

Kelvin Mellor says ‘he just had to do it’ when his hometown club made the phone call to bring him back this summer.

The 31-year-old has re-joined Crewe Alexandra after spending last season with Carlisle United and he is looking to bring success back to the club where he won promotion via the play-offs in 2012 and then followed that up with a Football League Trophy success in the following year.

Mellor, who made 92 appearances for the club during his first spell, is targeting an instant return to League One and he returns with a CV with an impressive three promotions.

Kelvin told crewealex.net: “I just had to get it done. When I got the call and the opportunity to come back, I just had to take it. I am delighted to be coming back, really thrilled.

“It happened quickly, over the course of a weekend really. I have wanted to come back for a while now an when I got the call saying that the manager was wanting it to happen I couldn’t wait to put pen to paper really.

“It has given me the security to know where I am going to be next season. I can go away with the family without having to worry about that or take phone calls on holiday. I can enjoy the summer a bit more now before returning for the pre-season.

“I have heard impressive things about the manager and the coaches. I was coached by Alex and I played with Lee, so I know their style and how they are steeped in the Crewe way. Our objective is get out of the league as soon as possible and I will give my all for them and the club.

Kelvin added: “It is my hometown club and it means a lot to me. I have had a few promotions in my career and I want to have another one here again and I will do my best to help us achieve that. “
