First Year Pros Player Profile: Tom Booth

23 May 2022

Crewe Alexandra are delighted to announce that Tom Booth has agreed his first professional contract with the Football Club.

Tom, 17, joined the Alex aged eight and has represented the club at every age group and he will be looking to cap it all off by earning a first-team spot in the future.

Tom Booth has a good chance of one day becoming Crewe Alexandra’s first-team goalkeeper if he continues to work at his game.

That’s according to U18s Manager Ryan Dicker, has great faith in the homegrown custodian is backing him to represent Crewe on the big stage in the future.

He said: “He’s a terrific lad with a great character. He’s always been a good shot-stopper and he is mobile and athletic.

“He has good size and has developed a real presence in the goal, not just in terms of his organisation and communication but in the way he can relieve pressure on the defence due to his ability to come and deal with balls coming into the box.

“All good keepers are a bit mad in certain aspects and Tom is no exception, but he works at his deficiencies and that’s been a big part of his progression over the past few years.

“He has improved a lot with his distribution and is now a vital part of the team in terms of starting moves off. His decision-making has also become more assured.

“Tom’s challenge is to keep going. If he keeps working and progressing at the rate he has done in the past few years, I think he could be the next one to come through and play in the first-team.”
