First Year Pros Player Profile: Charlie Finney

23 May 2022

Charlie Finney follows in his big brother’s footsteps by agreeing professional papers with the Railwaymen.

Charlie, who hails from Audley in Staffordshire, joined the Alex at the age of six and started learning in pre-academy training sessions.

The 18-year-old, younger brother of first-teamer Oli Finney, played a key role in the club’s run to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup where they were narrowly defeated to Premier League side Leicester City.

But U18 Manager, Ryan Dicker, wants him to push on and start getting in and around the senior squad next season.

He said: “Charlie has always been ahead of the curve in terms of his development.

“He’s technically very good, left-footed and predominantly plays in midfield. He has the attributes to play all the different roles in midfield.

“He can be the link when he drops deeper as his receiving skills are excellent, but we see Charlie better suited in higher positions because he has the vision and techniques to create and score."
