Assistant manager upbeat after two early arrivals
Lee Bell says the search for players continues in earnest after the club conducted early business in signing Conor Thomas and Kelvin Mellor for next season. The club’s assistant manager appreciates that we are looking to strength in all areas and Bell explains that the focus remains on signing ‘good players and good characters’ first and foremost.
The club’s backroom staff are working hard behind the scenes to add more new faces before pre-season training commences on 22nd June.
Bell told crewealex.net: “We are looking to sign good players, regardless of their age or even how many games they have played. Experience can come in many forms and a young player could have more than an older player.
“We just want good players with good characters to come into the building and raise the standard. In this day and age, the manager cannot do it all on his own and he needs that support group behind him.
“That is all I and the rest of the backroom staff are trying to be. It has been a team effort with the recruitment with Josh and Glyn giving us a fresh impetus and a new set of eyes if you like when it comes to players, but we have all been watching clips and been out watching players before the season ended.
“We bounce off each other and you need that. Alex welcomes your opinion and it’s the same with JD (Dillon), Fred, Kenny, Josh and Glyn. We all have our say and asked what we think but ultimately Alex will decide who we sign and who we don’t and that is how it should be.
“It is working well and we have been delighted to get some early business done with Conor and Kelvin coming in. There are days that are frustrating and you hit a brick wall with one and it’s a no or maybe, but we just keep working away at the list.”
