David Artell was an impressed observer as Wycombe Wanderers kept their play-off hopes very much alive with a fairly comfortable 3-0 mid-week win over Cambridge United.
Two early goals set them on their way to a deserved home win that now sees them one point off Sunderland in 6th place.
Artell said of Saturday’s opponents: “Wycombe are a good side. They are effective at what they do and Gareth (Ainsworth) is the ideal fit for them. They were in the Championship last season and were really unlucky they didn’t survive.
“They had a poor start to the season and it cost them in the end but they have been challenging all year in this league and will be one of a number of clubs hoping to finish in the top six. It is a tough one to call.
“We have to stand up to them and defend well. We were beaten by a deflection at a corner and a late goal coming from a throw-in at their place, so we know we have to be aware of the dangers they pose.
“We will have to defend those first and second phases better and if we can play our football like we did against Oxford then we have a chance.”
