Richards: "We Have To Keep The Performances Up"

2 March 2022

David Richards is hoping that the Alex can build some real momentum coming off the back of a good performance against Oxford United and a first win in eight games against Cheltenham last weekend.

Crewe host Wycombe Wanderers this weekend aiming to attain three more points and keep pour hopes of remaining in League One very much alive. Richards appreciates that we are now within the countdown of games left before the end of the season in April and the former Bristol City and Cardiff stopper says that with almost everyone writing us off to survive.

Richards told crewealex.net: “We all felt a bit better after the Oxford game because we felt the performance was good and we deserved more from the game. Our overall performance was good against a very good side in Oxford and we could take a lot from it.

“It gave us some confidence and we were all raring to go at Cheltenham on the Saturday and thankfully we were able to take that momentum into the game and get the three points. It all stemmed from the way we played against Oxford and we managed to get that first win for a while and it all helps.

“It had been tough on that run we were on but when that happens it is important to keep going, keep the spirits up and stick together. It was tough and the confidence is bound to take a bit of a knock because no-one likes to lose games but hopefully we can go on a run in the other direction.

“In some ways there is no pressure on us because everyone has written us off. We can into the fixtures against those clubs looking to win promotion or secure a play-off place as underdogs and the pressure is more on them at the moment.”
