"Hopefully Experienced Forwards Can Go On A Run Of Goals For Us"

1 March 2022

The partnership of Chris Porter and Chris Long could prove crucial as we enter the business end of the season. Both Crewe strikers were on target in Saturday’s deserved victory over Cheltenham and with Mikael Mandron still sidelined with a MCL injury, Crewe need our forward players to be firing on all cylinders in the remaining 12 games of the season.

Ahead of our weekend home game against Wycombe, Artell told us: “We have two experienced forwards with Chris Long and Chris Porter starting up there at Cheltenham and both scoring on the day.

“They are both good goalscorers and they have scored goals throughout their careers, so of course we want them to carry that on and hopefully they can both go on a run because that will only help the team.

“They are not the only two either. We need others to chip in with goals. Dan Agyei has scored a goal at Accrington and we have signed Bassala Sambou to score goals and provide assists. The midfielders can chip in with some and the defenders. They are all capable.

“On Saturday at Cheltenham, young Connor O’Riordan got the assist for Ports' winner. It was that little touch from the corner that took it into his path and made all the difference. It is those small contributions and touches that all add up and that is what we need from all of them.”
