Artell On The Process Of Rebuilding A New Team

3 March 2022

David Artell has told the club’s official website that he and his staff are in the process of building a new Crewe Alexandra side with another crop of up-and-coming youngsters.

Crewe are still fighting to remain in League One and have to get on a mini-run of results and soon if we are going to move away from the danger zone.

Artell has experienced a tough season on a personal level but he will be hoping that a deserved 2-1 victory at Cheltenham will be a springboard to give us at least a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.

The Alex boss told the club’s official website: “Everything takes time when you are rebuilding and that is what we are doing. We lost some good players in a short space of time and they are all in the Championship now, so it shows the quality we lost.

“I came into the job and it was a bit disjointed and we were 17th in League Two or whatever it was but we worked hard and built a very good team that won promotion and more than held its own in League One.

“That is what we have to try and do again. We are at the beginning of a new cycle, a new process with a new crop of young players. That will take time but with a few new additions along the way, we feel we can build another team to be where we need to be.

“The first objective is to remain in League One, then it is to be competitive at the top end of this league. That is what we are all striving for and I love the job and the challenge. You have to because it is all consuming and if you don’t love it then you are in the wrong job.”
