"The Work Continues To Improve Our Team"

10 June 2022

Assistant manager Lee Bell says the hard work of recruiting new players to the club has continued this week with the staff confident that more new faces will be in the building ahead of a return to full training on 22nd June.

Bell says the recruitment team are delighted to have already added three new players to the squad with the club’s assistant manager hoping that another two or three will follow at least.

Crewe have signed former defender Kelvin Mellor, midfielder Conor Thomas and forward Courtney Baker-Richardson well ahead of the full-time return to training and Bell remains upbeat that more will follow.

He told the club’s official website: “We have been able to identify players quickly and with the three we have been able to sign, we were able to present a package to them and get them up here to have a look around. It was about selling the club to them and what we expected of them and we are delighted that they want to come here and be a part of what we are doing to do.

“They had a real willingness to come, got the ball rolling quickly and made it happen. As transfers go it has gone relatively smoothly and they were really enthusiastic about coming here and being successful with us.

Bell added: “We have been pleased with the business we have done so far and we have been down a lot of different avenues as well. It is never easy but the lads have been terrific, really good in making it happen.

“We have managed to get three good players in and improved the areas we need to, but I would say that we need two or three more at least and we will keep working hard on that to get in the best ones we can.”
