Crewe Alexandra have signed midfield playmaker, Charlie Colkett, on a two-year contract, making the 25-year-old Londoner the club’s fourth signing of the summer.
Alex Morris and his staff moved swiftly to secure the services of the former Chelsea trainee after his short-term deal at Cheltenham Town expired at the end of the season.
Colkett made 9 appearances for Cheltenham last season after joining the club in the January window following a successful spell in Sweden with Ostersunds FK.
Colkett made 64 appearances for the Swedish club after signing back in January 2019 from Chelsea.
As a promising player in the Chelsea Academy system, Colkett’s performances were rewarded with International recognition with the England youth teams and he was capped from Under-16s right through to the Under-20s.
Whilst at Chelsea he helped the Premier League side win two FA Youth Cups and two UEFA Youth Leagues. He made it as far as the first-team bench, but was unable to make that decisive breakthrough to first team level.
As an excellent passer of the ball, Colkett made his professional debut whilst out on loan at Bristol Rovers in September 2016 and he went on to score his first professional goal in a 1-1 draw at Bradford in only his third game for the Pirates.
With game time limited at Stamford Bridge, the midfielder enjoyed further loan spells at Swindon and Shrewsbury in the EFL and with Vitesse in the Dutch league.
Everyone at Crewe Alexandra would like to welcome Charlie to the Football Club.
