Morris: "We Were Pleased With Everything"

7 July 2022

Morris pleased as Crewe score six in warm up

Alex Morris was pleased with the way his Crewe Alexandra side approached our third pre-season match of the season. The Railwaymen ran out comfortable 6-0 winners against our local neighbours Kidsgrove Athletic but Morris was looking at all aspects of performance.

The Crewe Alexandra manager was pleased with the attitude and desire of his players, but stressed that he wants them to be even more ruthless and clinical in front of goal because chances won’t be as forthcoming when the League Two campaign kicks off again at the end of the month.

“We were pleased with everything tonight, the attitude and the approach to the game was excellent with and without the ball, they did everything we asked of them. They were relentless in their attempts to win the ball back, which is what we particularly asked of them before the game and the patterns of play and the structure with the ball was good throughout.

“Obviously when you get to the stage of the game where it has got away from the opposition and you are winning comfortably, sometimes bad habits can creep into the play, and they didn’t.

“They couldn’t to do the right things at the right times and the only disappointing thing in the last half an hour was the lack of composure in the final third to score even more goals and make the scoreline more handsome than it us.

He added: “I don’t why it would change at 6-0 after 60 minutes. We want them to be just as ruthless and clinical when chances present themselves and that is something we will take away and work on. When we are playing league football some of those chances have to be taken and those good habits come from practicing in games like this.”
