Morris Pleased With Application In Useful Run-Out At Macclesfield

6 July 2022

Alex Morris was pleased with the way his young Crewe Alexandra side applied themselves against Macclesfield Town in our latest pre-season fixture.

The Alex fought back from 1-0 down to equalise through Max Woodcock just afte the hour mark, but deep into stoppage time they couldn’t quite hold out for a deserved draw after the home side managed to smuggle home a late winner.

The Crewe Alexandra manager selected four trialists and a selection of young professionals and scholars to start the game and he was delighted with their desire and work rate on the night.

Morris told the club’s official website: “It was a really useful work out when you factor in that we had four trialists, a couple of 16 year-olds, a couple of 17 year olds, they did really, really well as a team to not only produce some good moves, particularly in the second half - but the intensity and the enthusiasm out of possession throughout the whole game was outstanding.

He added: “We thought we were managing to wear them down, which is good to see when we had players on the pitch who were still at school a few months ago. The mistake at the end you just can’t factor for and as result of that they didn’t get what they deserved which was at the very least a draw. “
