Kenny: "We Will Certainly Get One In To Challenge For Number One Spot"

12 July 2022

Kenny Lunt, the club’s Player Development Coach, says that a new loanee goalkeeper will add the experience and competition to challenge Dave Richards for the number one spot.

Crewe Alexandra are confident of signing a goalkeeper on loan to add to the squad in the goalkeeping department after the Finnish goalkeeper, Will Jaaskelainen, was allowed to leave the club at the end of the season.

Lunt says that conversations have taken place with an another club over a potential loan goalkeeper but they wish to retain him a bit longer over pre-season and to cover for an injury to another of their goalkeepers.

Lunt told the club’s official website: “Tom (Booth) and Dave are doing well and training well but we are looking to bring in another one on loan to offer some more competition for the number one spot.

“We are looking for a bit more experience than Tom at this stage and we have had a conversation with a club about the possibility of taking one on loan. We will have to wait on that because they need him at the moment because one of their goalkeepers has a slight injury but we are confident that will materialise.

“If it doesn’t we have other options and we will be bringing another one in that’s for certain. Then it is a case of what we do with Tom. Does he stay here and play Under-23s football or do we look at getting him out on loan, so we can get the experience of playing men’s football? Those are the things we are considering at the moment but I am sure something we happen soon on that.”
