Morris: "Our Shape Was Very Good"

11 July 2022

Crewe boss pleased with the way his side worked hard to contain a strong Barnsley side.

Alex Morris was pleased with the application of his players after they worked exceptionally hard, in raising temperatures to keep a strong Barnsley side at bay on Saturday.

Genuine chances in the game were limited for both sides with the game ending in a stalemate at their impressive training facility, but Morris was more concerned with the way his team coped with a 3-5-2 formation and kept a disciplined shape.

Morris says that many of the things that he worked on ahead of the fixture and spoke about came to fruition.

The Crewe boss said: “We got everything we needed from the game and that is why we selected the fixture in the first place. We knew we would come up against what will be a very good League One club, who move the ball well and would test us defensively.

“They also played a system that we think we will encounter a lot this season, so there were many reasons why we picked the Barnsley fixture.

“We got all the challenges out of the game we hoped we would get and we were really pleased with many aspects of the way we dealt with their attacking play. We kept our shape really well.

He added: “Many of the things we were looking for we got and that was the most pleasing thing to take away. “
