Agyei Aiming To Take Pre-Season Form Into The New Campaign

21 July 2022

Alex Morris is hoping that forward Daniel Agyei can continue his good pre-season form against Rotherham United this weekend and then take that consistency into the new campaign.

The former Burnley, Coventry and Oxford winger was restricted to just four appearances for the club last season after signing in January from the U’s, but he did manage to get off the mark with a late consolation goal at Accrington Stanley.

The 25-year-old has successful rehabilitated from his injury and has come through pre-season in great shape, culminating in that solo run and finish to equalise against West Bromwich Albion last week.

The former AFC Wimbledon youth graduate showed his versatility in that game by moving centrally to score his goal in the 1-1draw and Alex Morris says that his overall performance and calm finish will only give him a timely boost ahead of the new season kicking off.

Morris told the club’s official website: “Dan’s performance and goal against West Brom last week should do him the world of good because it shows that he has got that ability to play wide or play centrally if we ever need him to.

“He is a wide player for us but as I’ve said previously, it is nice to know that he can play both positions and be effective for us. The more players we can play through the middle in this system the better. They are all different and possess different threats.

“Courtney Baker-Richardson provides a target threat for us. Dan can provide that threat beyond. We also have Bass Sambou and Chris Long come into that. It is up to us to get the best out of them.”
