Skipper was forced off early doors against Shrewsbury.

Crewe Alexandra are hoping that the hip injury to captain Luke Murphy is not too serious and he will be in contention for this weekend’s trip to Cambridge United.

Murphy was forced off inside the first 15 minutes of our goalless draw with Shrewsbury at the weekend and had to be replaced by Regan Griffiths.

Murphy tried to shake off the injury after an early collision but was unable to do so. The 32-year-old has made 28 appearances for the club this season, scoring a splendid goal in the 2-1 win at Morecambe last month.

Crewe were also without Scott Robertson for the visit of the Shrews because of a tight hamstring and he will be monitored this week in the hope that he will also be fit to travel.
