Boss: "We Cannot Afford An Off Day At The Abbey Stadium"

21 January 2022

Boss admits it will be tough if we don't play to our potential at confident Cambridge United this weekend

David Artell says the aim this weekend at Cambridge will be to make sure that our recent momentum continues. The Railwaymen have taken four points from home games against Charlton and Shrewsbury and now hit the road again looking to get three points and hopefully claw some points on those clubs that are ahead us in the League One table.

The Alex boss is after vast improvement from our last away game, where one of our worst defensive displays resulted in a 4-1 win for Burton Albion on New Year’s Day.

Ahead of our trip to the Abbey Stadium, the Alex manager told us: “We let ourselves down at Burton. We didn’t defend anywhere like we can and hopefully that was an off day and a blip because before that we had been going okay.

“What we cannot afford to do is have an off day again at Cambridge. We want to go there and not let ourselves down, performance wise, because if the performance is good and we defend as well as we did against Shrewsbury, then we have a great chance of getting something.

“Cambridge are on a decent run themselves. They caused the FA Cup upset of the third round by winning at Newcastle, so we know it is going to be tough, but we got there as one of the form sides in the leagues and we want to keep adding to that momentum. We want to extend that unbeaten run to three matches and then go into the next one.”
