Kenny Lunt says that new signings can only bolster the morale and excitement inside a club dressing room. Having played over 400 games for Crewe before earning a switch to Sheffield Wednesday, the club’s assistant manager knows a thing or two about the buzz a new arrival can make to a squad.
Lunt says that Crewe remain in the picture to add to the signing of Bassala Sambou before the end of the deadline on Monday and he is hoping that those potential arrivals will give everyone a welcome boost.
Lunt told us: “When a squad sees a new player or players come in, it can only give them a lift. They see that someone is coming in to try and help them. They will see a team-mate who is reliable and it only brings excitement, especially if they have been at a big club or played higher.
“As a player or coach, you have that same excitement. The players can see that we are doing everything we can to try and improve. They will see that we are trying to survive in this league, if we weren’t we would just put our own very young players in – but we wanted to strengthen and we want to add more.
“We have a good group here and they will help anyone settle quickly. They will quickly feel like one of us and hopefully they will come in and make a difference. It only gives us greater options and pushes everyone because the competition for places becomes greater still. We want it to push the others along and give them a lift as much as anybody.”
