David Artell has told the club’s official website that he expects to do a ‘fair bit of business’ in the January transfer window but admits that his experience has already told him that anything can happen between now and when the window closes at the end of the month.
The Alex are currently in the bottom four of League One and he admits that the recruitment in the next few weeks could be key to our survival.
Artell said: “I intend to do a fair bit of business in the window and hopefully get some new faces in, hopefully something will happen by the weekend but you never know in this game. Anything can happen. You can think you are making progress and then something happens or someone else comes in or the player changes his mind.
“Even when we have signed them they can end up not playing for you, as we found out with two players we signed in the summer!
“Therefore, you have to remain cautious and not get carried away until everything is signed and sealed because literally anything can happen in football!
“The window is an opportunity for us to improve and that is what we will aim to do. We have to improve with new signings or not and quickly.
“If we can get the recruitment right and get one or two in who will go into the team and help us then that gives us a better chance. If we don’t then it can make things difficult and everyone can see what could happen.
“We want to give ourselves the best chance and that is what we are working hard on.”
