Artell: "We Have To Get Back To Where We Were Before The Pauses"

12 January 2022

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says it is vitally important that his side get back to the type of form we were in before opposition Covid results and the FA Cup resulted in our matches being postponed.

Crewe had found some improved form, winning our first away game of the season at Morecambe to end the year, but we came crashing back down to earth following a humbling by Burton Albion on New Year’s Day.  Crewe produced one of their poorest defensive displays of the season to go down 4-1 at the Pirelli Stadium.

Artell is looking for his side to put that result and performance well and truly behind us with a positive one against Charlton this evening.

Ahead of the encounter at the Mornflake Stadium, the Crewe boss said: “We had been going along ok and had managed to pick up some points but we let ourselves down at Burton last time out and we have to get back to where we were before that.

“We had found some form but have now played two league games in about a month because of postponements due to Covid or other teams being involved in the FA Cup. It is something we cannot control but we have to try and get back to where we were prior to all that. We have to be like we were before his pause and try and get back on track as soon as we can.”
