Josh: "We Have To Keep Going And Give It Everything In The Remaining Games"

Alex midfielder Josh Lundstram says he doesn’t particularly mind where he plays in the Crewe Alexandra starting XI as long as he can get some more game time under his belt before the end of the season. The 23-year-old believes that after his injury set-backs last season and at times this, he is ready to kick start his career again and cement a place in David Artell side once again.

He did his chances no harm at all when coming on at right back for the injured Tariq Uwakwe in Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat by Oxford. Travis Johnson swapped sides to accommodate Lundstram on the right and when Crewe switched to three at the back to push the U’s back, Lundstram adapted quickly and provided an outlet further up the pitch.

Although he only played for just an hour, his all-round performance saw him named as the sponsors Man-of the-Match.

Josh told the club’s official website: “It is clear that I haven’t played as much as I would have liked over the last two seasons so I just want to play as many games as I can now. I want a run of games, not just the odd game here or there.

“I am not young anymore and I want to establish myself in the team every week. I want to hold down a place and I don’t mind where. I enjoy the right-back role, especially when we went to a back three and I was at wing-back.

“Any footballer will tell you that you just want to play and when you don’t, you are going to get frustrated at times. All you can do is to train properly and wait for that chance. If you have that chance then you have to be ready to take it. You have to keep going and perform as well as you can.

He added: “I just want to come in and help the team. We understand the frustration of the supporters and all we can do is keep trying and try and win the majority of our remaining games.  We are working hard every day and hopefully things will turn for us.

“On Tuesday night, we hit the underside of the bar and they scored a scrappy goal and that was the game, so we weren’t far off.”
