Impact Of New Players Gives Us Hope

3 February 2022

David Artell was pleased with the impact made by four of his five new signings in last night’s bottom of the table clash with Gillingham. Artell named three of his new signings in his starting XI and had to quickly introduced Bassala Sambou just after the half an hour mark after Chris Long was forced off through illness.

Crewe lost the game 1-0 due to a debatable penalty but Artell says that the new signings certainly saw an improvement as an attacking force. Crewe had enough opportunities to have forced an equaliser during a second half we literally dominated.

Artell told the club’s official website: “We had three new players starting and another one came on fairly early and they all made a good fist of it. They need to hit the ground running and I think they all made a good start.

“There is no getting away from the fact that we need them to hit the ground running but it may take a bit of time for those relationships on the pitch to form but I was pleased with the way they all played for their first game. It gives us hope and we have to turn more of that good play into points.

“We have a free weekend, so we have important next week or so of training. It gives us a bit of time to show them what we want from them and they can see how their team-mates work too.”
