David Artell has told the club’s official website that he was pleased with the way his Crewe side responded in the second half at Gillingham last night. The Railwaymen dominated much of the second period and created enough half chances to have at least got something from the game.
As it was Neil Harris’ side showed their battling qualities and resolutely kept us at bay to win the game 1-0 thanks to a controversial penalty decision in the 15th minute.
The loss now sees Gillingham on equal points with the Alex in the bottom four.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I felt that we deserved more than what we got. We had a few decent chances in that second half but didn’t quite create that gilt edge chance and take it. Their goalkeeper made some saves he should make and we didn’t test him enough.
“On another night we score one or two and win the game and I felt the players deserved that as we were by far the better side in the second half and I didn’t think we were the worst side in the first half either. Our play deserved more but the decisions at both ends went against us and you shouldn’t be getting decisions like that as wrong as that.”
