  • Cerys Griffin scores on her return from suspension
  • Hannah Holloway's heroics get Crewe all three points
  • Crewe extend unbeaten run to three in all competitions
Cerys Griffin and captain Loren Cooper score in either half to help the Alex to all three points against Fleetwood Town Ladies.

After completing her suspension she received against FC United of Manchester, Griffin announced her return with a fabulous goal.

Club captain Cooper seals the points for Crewe with her second half header from a Laura Garner corner.

In the build-up to this one the club had to deal with a chest infection that was making it's way around the group which meant Amanda Fallon and Beth Ragdale missed out on the matchday squad. Whilst Grace Duckworth, Kirsty Stafford and Emilia Edwards all missed training, but were included.

Griffin set up Garner in the early stages of the game as Crewe looked to put pressure on the visitors, but she could only blaze over the bar.

The goal game in the 9th minute as Grace Duckworth split the Fleetwood defence with a through ball to Griffin who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner from 10 yards out.

Crewe carried on pulling the strings and Fleetwood had to rely on their keeper to keep them in the game midway through the half as she tipped Garner's free-kick onto the crossbar.

Megan Beech came close to doubling the lead as her effort from distance fizzed just wide of the goal. Fleetwood had their first shot at goal though after Beech's attempt with Hannah Holloway making a great save on 40 minutes to stop the away side's number nine from close-range.

Looking to kill the game off, Emilia Edwards smashed her strike goalwards, but the upright of the Fleetwood goal saved the Cod Army from falling two behind.

Both keepers were now being kept busy as Holloway came to the rescue by tipping a long-range effort behind for a corner.

But with the game in the balance, it was Crewe who got the decisive goal when skipper Cooper headed home Garner's corner.

However, four minutes later a dubious penalty was awarded to the visitors, who took advantage of the decision and pulled a goal back.

Holloway's heroics in the reminder of the game saw the Alex to the three points.

Head Coach, Matt Fisher said in his post-match interview: "I'm extremely proud of the players. They've had so much bad luck with illness and injury and it was a slog out there.

"They worked so hard to absorb the opponents pressure and that showed. We were dangerous on the break and ruthless in the box.

"We now move on to a tough game against Curzon Ashton where I know we will be ready for a massive challenge."
