Conor Thomas: Let's Build On Good Start To Long Season

3 August 2022

Conor Thomas is relishing the opportunity to build on a winning start, when Crewe Alexandra play their first game of the season at Mornflake Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

The midfielder, who signed a two-year deal with The Railwaymen earlier this summer, was outstanding in the opening-day success at Rochdale.

Now the 28-year-old is looking forward to the chance to make his home debut when Harrogate visit.

He said: "It was good to get off the mark and start strong at Rochdale, but we won’t be getting carried away.

"There were some good performances from the boys - we have some really good players. It’s nice to know you can give the attacking players the ball and trust them to make things happen.

"The gaffer has given us a good structure to work from so we need to implement that in as many games as possible and have a positive season.

"It will be nice to have a competitive game at home. It’s a long season so we will trust the process and take it game by game. If we do that and focus on what’s ahead of us I’m sure we will come out with more wins than anything else."

Former Coventry, Swindon, and Cheltenham man Conor also had words of praise for Alex supporters after they roared the side to three points at Crown Oil Arena.

He added: "The fans were brilliant and it made a big difference, that sort of support really pushes you and keeps you going – especially during that spell when our backs were against the wall.

"They were brilliant for us and hopefully we can give them something to cheer this season."
