Alex Morris: Transfer Business Is Likely Complete

2 August 2022

Alex Morris does not expect to add any more players to his Crewe Alexandra squad this summer.

The gaffer has brought eight new faces to Mornflake Stadium since mid-May, bolstering all departments as he moulds a group capable of challenging in League Two.

Now he thinks his business is concluded - unless players leave between now and the end of the transfer window (August 31).

Alex explained: "I’d imagine that’s us done, unless something happens in terms of players going out - which isn’t looking likely at the moment.

"In truth, we are short in one area of the pitch, in terms of cover. But everywhere else we have two or three players that we could call upon.

"We regularly reiterate to the players where we expect to see them challenging so they understand what areas of the pitch they are aiming to win or keep a place in the side.

"Some of them are versatile and have more than one position to compete for, while others have just one and they need to nail it down. We are happy with the balance overall."

Keeper Arthur Okonkwo, on loan from Arsenal, was the most recent addition to the Alex squad when he arrived on a year-long deal last week.

Rod McDonald and Kelvin Mellor have been signed to shore up the defence, while midfielders Conor Thomas, Charlie Colkett, and Khanya Leshabela have come on board. Up front, Courtney Baker-Richardson and Lachlan Brook will increase the firepower.
