Alex Morris says Crewe Alexandra must make sure they never go 21 games without a clean sheet again.
Saturday's shutout of Harrogate was the first time The Railwaymen have kept a clean sheet since the 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury Town in January.
The manager says working from a solid structural base is a huge part of his approach this season, and conceding in 21 fixtures on the spin must not happen again.
Alex said: "That shouldn’t ever be happening again, should it? We have to go a long way to ensure stats like that don’t need to be broken again.
"If we continue to have a sound base and limit the opposition to very few attempts on goal, then we have good attacking options to go and win games.
"I want us to have a sound, solid structural base in terms of how we defend and are organised this season. When you have that, your football can evolve from it.
"We won’t always play wonderful football – we will attempt to as often as we can – but if we can’t fire with our football at least if we know we are always sound at the back that will make us competitive in games."
The boss is hoping to take the same approach into tonight's Carabao Cup tie at Grimsby Town (Tuesday, August 9, 7.45m).
He added: "Grimsby were good on Saturday, they had the lion’s share of the possession against Northampton, and Northampton are fancied to challenge at the top end this season.
"They are very enthusiastic and hungry, so we are expecting a very difficult game.
"They are still under relatively new ownership which has brought in a lot of positivity around the town, and they will be ready to challenge us and put us under pressure. We have to stand up to that."
