Alex Morris: 'I hope we're starting to regain fans' trust'

17 August 2022

Alex Morris is hopeful the 1-0 victory over Sutton United is another step towards regaining the trust of Crewe Alexandra supporters.

The Railwaymen bounced back from a midweek cup exit at Grimsby and a first League Two defeat at Salford at the weekend, with a gritty display at Mornflake Stadium.

Courtney Baker-Richardson's strike earned three points to make it three wins in four in the league, and edge the Alex up to sixth in the standings.

The manager felt it was an important victory in the light of last season's relegation.

Morris explained: "I could sense the anxiety amongst supporters at times after the Salford game, and that’s understandable after last season, so we have to show them we can bounce back from defeats.

"We have to regain their trust and hopefully three wins from four games is going some way towards doing that. They have to stick with us because they can galvanise us, our players feed off our supporters when they are like that (against Sutton), they were excellent.

"We wanted to show we can bounce back from having a not-so-good week, and in a strange way I enjoyed it every bit as much as a win that comes from pure football.

"Sutton make it so difficult to get any rhythm or pattern in the game, and they are very good at what they do. It was so hard for us to secure any possession, but we defended our box well and wouldn’t allow anyone to overpower or bully us.

"The lads all stood up and we have showed we can win football matches in different ways."
