Boss after more possession and more confidence on the ball at Doncaster this weekend.
David Artell wants his players to take the positives that came out of our mid-week performance against MK Dons into this weekend’s bottom of the table clash with Doncaster Rovers. Crewe were narrowly beaten 2-1 at Stadium MK on Tuesday evening and a much improved second half performance from the Alex against the league’s most in-form side, did provide some encouragement in what has become a dismal run of results of late.
Crewe now face Doncaster at the weekend needing to win to stand any chance of survival and Artell says that we have to take those periods of good possession into the clash at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Artell told the club’s official website: “It was a proper game of football against MK Dons on Tuesday night. It was two teams trying to play football and for large parts of the second half we matched the MK Dons, who are regarded as one of the best footballing sides in the division.
“Now we have to go into the final games of the season, get on the ball and try and replicate that possession. At times, in that second half, we played some good stuff and had some better openings in and around their box.
“We have to try and impose that on Doncaster on Saturday, and then Wimbledon and then play like we did in that second half at MK Dons at Sheffield Wednesday.
“We didn’t do it often enough and we didn’t create too many clear cut chances but it was better from us and we have got to be better again.
“If we can play well and get that win then some of the belief comes back. We have good players and maybe they don’t believe that to be the case because of the run we have been on.”
