Morris Named Unchanged Side In Owls Defeat

20 April 2022

Alex Morris elected to name an unchanged team for his second game in caretaker charge of Crewe Alexandra and he says that the players chosen fitted the system and game plan he wanted to execute at Hillsborough.

Crewe lost the game 1-0 thanks to Lee Gregory’s second half penalty and Interim boss, Morris explained his thinking after going with the same XI that defeated AFC Wimbledon 3-1 on Good Friday.

Morris told the club’s official website: “Having that consistency played a part but I also felt that the personnel we selected was right for the way we wanted to play and approach the game. We discussed a couple from the bench possibly coming into the team but we decided against that for one or two reasons and we knew we needed some energy in wide areas against their wing-backs.

“I also knew that the three substitutes would be used at various points in the game. Some were enforced with Rekeem and Josh getting cramp and a pulled muscle respectively. In football you cannot plan for everything and have to react to situations and I thought we did that and the subs played a part in that too.”
