Artell: "We Don't Want It To Be In The Last Chance Saloon On Saturday"

7 April 2022

Artell targets away win to delay League One exit.

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says it is imperative that the Railwaymen end a run of eight straight defeats at fellow strugglers Doncaster Rovers at the weekend, so we can at least delay walking into the last chance saloon.

Crewe have to win at the Keepmoat Stadium to stand any chance of staying in League One and even then we will need results to go our way too. The Alex are on the brink of relegation following  a difficult season and Artell says that we have to keep fighting until the final kick of the ball at Lincoln on the final day.

The Alex boss told us: “We have to got to win on Saturday (against Doncaster) nothing else will do now because we are running out of games. We have been saying that for a few weeks now and we are outside the last chance saloon because we haven't done it.

“It is up to us to make sure that we don’t walk into it on Saturday. We want to delay the inevitable for as long as we can. We know we are relying on others but there is nothing we can do about that. We have to get back to winning games of football it is as simple as that. If we don’t win on Saturday then we know what happens. Everyone knows what is at stake.

The boss added: “We have five games left. We could win all five matches and still be relegated, so all we can do is to keep fighting and keep trying to improve and that has to go right through to the last kick at Lincoln.”
