'Gomes Offers Something Different To Our Other Midfielders'

Boss delighted by Spaniard's arrival as a free agent

David Artell believes the club have landed a real coup in attracting the former Leeds United, Portsmouth and Doncaster Rovers midfielder, Madger Gomes to the football club.

The 24-year-old who spent his youth career at Villarreal before a switch to Liverpool in the summer of 2014, agreed to join Crewe despite other interest in the summer.

Gomes, who has also represented Spain at youth level, has a wealth of EFL experience and Artell is delighted with his deadline day signing.

The Crewe boss told us: “Madger had other options in the summer and turned down an offer from a top League One club, so we are delighted to have signed him. We feel we have a really good player on our hands.

“We have come up against him a few times and we know what a good player he is and what he can offer us. He is a bit different to what we have and now we have to get him up to speed. Not necessary in terms of fitness, although that will be a part of it, but also with the way we play and what we want from him.

“He has come in at a good time because we haven’t had a game and that has helped us get some work into him. It has helped him and the others that are new to the club.”
