'Forwards Have Made A Difference But We Can Improve All Areas'

22 September 2021

David Artell firmly believes that the summer transfer signings of forward players, Scott Kashket, J’Neil Bennett, Ben Knight and Chris Long to go alongside Mikael Mandron and Chris Porter has improved our attacking flair in the final third.

Artell says the improvement in our attack has been evident to see with Crewe scoring four goals in the last three matches and although he appreciates that there is still scope to improve, our goal threat is not too much of a concern at the moment.

“We haven’t scored enough goals in the league this season and that is why we bought in J'Neil and Scott on deadline day. We knew we needed more options and we were pleased to get them over the line.

“I believe we have improved as a front three and we had a number of options now to change the system if we want to.

“There is still work to do be done and you have to remember that those new players who came here on deadline day haven’t had a lot of time out on the training ground. We have only had a couple of weeks or so to work with them. They will improve over time because we will be able to put more of the work into them.

He added: “We have scored four goals in the last three games, so that is a step in the right direction. It is not necessary a concern but of course, another area for improvement. There are many areas that we can improve on and getting others to chip in with a few goals is one of them.”
