'Fans Have Been Outstanding For Us'

Boss grateful for terrific support on the road yet again...

Crewe Alexandra took just over 1,000 fans to pack the away end at the New Meadow at the weekend and boss David Artell says that everyone was extremely grateful to see that level of support on the road.

The Alex faithful were superb in Saturday’s draw 1-1 with Steve Cotterill’s Shrews and it was just a shame that we couldn’t find that winner in front of that section of the ground.

Artell told the club’s official website: “I said to the players before the game that there will be similar numbers to those went to Leeds (in the EFL Cup).

“They ran their socks off at Elland Road and played well, so I just asked them to do the same against Shrewsbury.

“I just said to them that if they need any more motivation they should do it for the fans. They are the ones who travel to watch them and pay their hard earned money. They were terrific again for us, I thought they were outstanding.

“They have turned up in their numbers and we are so grateful for that support. They help us and I hope they went away from Shrewsbury seeing the same improvement we did. I’m sure they did because they understand the game.

The boss added: “They are so important to us and I hope they come in their numbers again on Saturday and just don’t sit there. I want them to make as much noise as our away supporters have at Leeds, Charlton and now Shrewsbury.”
