Boss now targeting home points after encouraging away displays.
David Artell believes that suffering one defeat in the last six games has shown that his team are heading in the right direction.
Crewe Alexandra’s spirited performances at Rotherham and Plymouth have earned back-to-back draws and Artell wants to transform those battling qualities into our home games but with added quality in the final third.
The Alex boss believes that being at home for the next two League games against Cambridge and Doncaster means his side will have to show the initiative when it comes to attacking.
Artell told the club’s official website: “We have had one defeat in the last six games, and that is a step in the right direction. There have been too many draws in that sequence but if it can become one defeat in eight games and there is three wins in there, it looks a lot more healthy.
“That is the challenge for us but I think it shows that we are getting there. It hasn’t been a bad foundation to build from and I believe we are improving. We will get there. There is still a long way to go to where we want to be but I cannot fault the lads at the moment.
“They are absolutely working their socks off and are probably further on in our development than I thought we would be. That is credit to them and we have to keep working hard out of the training ground to strive to get better.
“We now have two home games in the league and when you are at home, there is extra emphasis on you taking the greater initiative. As the home side, it is more on you to break teams down and look to score goals.
He added: “We have played well at Rotherham for the last 20 minutes and for half an hour, 35 minutes at Plymouth when we were very good. We have to put that spirit and those qualities we showed at those two tough places and try to get more on the front foot, for longer spells against Cambridge and then Doncaster.”
