"Always Tough Against A Steve Cotterill Side"

10 September 2021

Alex travel to The New Meadow hoping For a repeat of Papa John's Trophy  success.

David Artell says that his counterpart at Shrewsbury Town, Steve Cotterill has done a ‘remarkable job’ in establishing the club in League One. The Alex head to our close neighbours on Saturday aiming to achieve three points in the league for the first time this season but Artell knows that will be no easy task with the Shrews just one place above us in the table.

Cotterill’s side enjoyed their first win of the campaign with a 2-1 home over Gillingham on 28th August that was followed by a 1-0 loss to high-flying Accrington Stanley on International weekend.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I think we are two different clubs in many ways but I think Steve (Cotterill) has done a remarkable job. They also have very good chairman there who offers that stability.

“I would imagine Shrewsbury have their own issues like any other club and that could be different to ours. Every club is different and it may be the case that they also need some time to gel as a team or whatever.

“All I know is it will be another tough game for us. It always is going there and when you are up against a Steve Cotterill team.

“We have to match their commitment and hope that our quality ends up being better than theirs. It is important that the players win their own individual duels and them the team collective should fall into place.

“I don’t want to worry too much about what Shrewsbury can or cannot do, it is about us performing to our potential and we can do that then we are a match for anyone in this league.”
