The Latics have set the pace in League One this season and will present a challenge in Football League Trophy whoever Richardson selects to start at Mornflake Stadium.
David Artell has told the club’s official website that whoever Wigan Athletic manager, Leam Richardson selects for tonight’s meeting in the Papa John’s Trophy will be a strong team.
The Latics have invested over the summer and are currently top of the League One table, ahead of Sunderland on goal difference.
Artell expects another stiff test at our Mornflake Stadium home and will be looking for a vast improvement on our second half showing against Cambridge. Crewe led 2-0 at the half time break only to end up drawing the game.
Artell told crewealex.net: “Wigan have a big squad and whoever Leam selects tonight will present a tough test. They have very good players and that is why they are top of the league and the in-form team.
“They will be strong whoever plays and it will be interesting night. I will be looking at what we do and how some of our players are, how they react and their attitude. I will pick a team to win the game and I’m sure Leam will do the same.
“It could be an opportunity for some who are not starting regularly in the league and sometimes they rise to the occasion and grab that opportunity. “
