Boss: "We Can't Afford To Have Too Many Having An Off Day"

18 October 2021

David Artell says that moving away from the game plan against Fleetwood Town on Saturday was one of the decisive factors in our disappointing 3-0 defeat.

Crewe are still seeking that elusive first away win of the campaign and now have a succession of home matches to try and get back on track, starting against promotion favourites Sunderland tomorrow night.

It has been a tough start to the new season and Artell says he was disappointed that we went away from what we are good at on the weekend.

He told the club’s official website: “There were one or two examples of that happening. Of us, moving away from what we are good at and what we planned to do. There were examples of some players believing they could solve it on their own and with their own ability.

“Perhaps they might do, but that happens once or twice a season when they produce something unbelievable, out of the ordinary or score an unbelievable goal.

“We have to make sure we play to our strengths and remember we what we are. When you have too many players having a bad day then you get a below par performance and that is what we got at Fleetwood.”
